Why bonding?

So you want to improve your smile. There are several treatment choices available today to get you the smile of your dreams but bonding is one of Dr. Shapiro’s favorites. It brings out the artist in him. He can instantly close spaces, reshape teeth and improve almost any smile at a fraction of cost of veneers.

Cosmetic dentistry often involves tooth whitening, bonding, porcelain veneers or Invisalign either as independent procedures or in combination with one another. The amount of treatment depends on how much of a change you desire.

There is no right way to create a new smile but there is an ideal way for you. Dr. Shapiro has been creating beautiful smiles for over thirty years. His ideal treatment plans lean toward the doing the most conservative treatment (which often saves money) to achieve your treatment goals. Dr. Shapiro has seen many patients who were previously informed that porcelain veneers were their only choice, find that composite bonding is the best option for them.

What is Composite Bonding?

Composite is a tooth colored filling material which can be added to your existing teeth and when expertly shaped by Dr. Shapiro can be invisible to the eye. You can have spaces between your front teeth closed and worn edges restored with this material. When bonding is done well it can magically transform a smile. It is a long lasting material which maintains its color. The best part about restoring with composite is that it preserves your existing teeth. The entire process is an additive procedure which is 100% pain free and is completed in only one visit. Prior to the procedure Dr. Shapiro will even show you the final result so you know what to expect. There are no surprises when it comes to bonding!

What are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are thin shells of porcelain which cover the visible surface of the tooth. They are used to mask discolored teeth and can be used to dramatically change the appearance of a tooth and your smile. They can be used to visibly re-position teeth. Porcelain veneers are often used by people who do not want to do orthodontic procedures which take considerably more time to get results. It is a more invasive procedure than bonding but it has the ability to make changes that are difficult with composite bonding. The procedure requires two visits but the patient leaves with a brand new smile at the first visit. Many of Dr. Shapiro’s veneers have lasted 20 years!

Choosing Your Best Treatment Options

At your examination visit Dr. Shapiro will review your options with you. Tooth whitening may be first on the list to get your smile as bright as possible. Bonding is often the treatment of choice if it is appropriate for you. Teeth that have been been bonded with composite can always be veneered, but once a tooth is veneered you can’t go back, another veneer or a crown are the only options for future treatment. At times Dr. Shapiro has combined porcelain veneers with composite bonding.  Even procedures such as Invisalign can be utilized to give you the best possible result.

Having so many choices gives us the opportunity to enable you to have the smile of your dreams. Many times patients are able to have what they want faster, and less costly, then they ever thought possible.
