Do you do regular dentistry?

Yes, we do. Dr. Shapiro is really a general dentist who has the skills and passion to do very fine cosmetic dentistry. We treat both adults and children starting at about 2 1/2 years old. We do the basic dental cleanings and general restorative dentistry in Smithtown that will help you keep your smile problem free for a lifetime.

What is dental bonding?

Dental bonding uses tooth colored material to correct minor or even major irregularities such as chips, gaps, exposed root surfaces or broken/decayed teeth. It quickly improves the appearance of your teeth and offers long lasting results. The material fuses to the tooth and can be custom colored and shaped to exactly match your own natural teeth.

How much do veneers cost?

The cost of your dental veneers will depend on the type of veneers that you choose. For instance, veneers can be made of porcelain, composite, or similar material. Veneers are priced similarly to crowns.

How long do veneers and crowns last?

Crowns and veneers should last a very long time when done well.  Amazingly enough, the majority of Dr. Shapiro’s have a lifespan of over 20 years when properly maintained. He even has patients whose crowns and bridges have lasted over 30 years. Quite a remarkable feat considering the environment.

Am I a candidate for Invisalign braces?

Adults make excellent candidates for clear braces like Invisalign orthodontics. The comfortable aligners are easy to care for and mature patients are much more likely to follow their treatment recommendations. Interestingly enough, many adults who have gone through previous orthodontic treatment are the most eager to have Invisalign. Learn more about how traditional orthodontics compare to Invisalign.

What is involved in a smile makeover?

Smile makeovers involve different aspects of cosmetic dentistry to change the appearance of your smile. They may use one type of procedure or a combination of several different ones. Your smile makeover is based on your expectations, dental health and budget. If budget is an issue many times treatment can be carried out in stages to make it more affordable, though many patients find it is a lot less costly then anticipated.

Can you replace my silver fillings with white ones?

Absolutely. White composite fillings are perfect for restoring your teeth as well as improving your smile’s appearance. They require less tooth preparation and are less invasive than silver fillings.

Will my dental insurance pay for cosmetic dentistry?

Many procedures thought to be cosmetic are really restorative and are covered by dental insurance.

How long will dental implants last?

Dental implants last longer than any other type of dental treatment. In most cases, implants will last for the rest of your life.

Are dental implants expensive?

Investing in a dental implant may seem like a slightly larger expense in the beginning, but given the long life span of the prosthesis, dental implants wind up being a very smart investment.
